Beginning Brioche

This class teaches one of the simplest and most versatile of the Brioche stitches: 2 color rib. This is a 4-row repeat in which you work each row using one of the two colored yarns -- no color knitting technique required except the ability to knit stripes. Brioche rib produces a very thick, very stretchy fabric that has lots of applications. For inspiration, see Nancy Marchant's book, Knitting Brioche and her website is great too, click here to check it out!

This class is for knitters who are at an intermediate level or above. You must be comfortable with knitting, purling, slipped stitches and yarnovers. We will knit the BEBEB scarf, a free pattern in Ravelry.

For supplies, you will need two colors of contrasting yarn in DK or worsted weight and a circular needle (you cannot use straights for reasons that will be explained in the class). The circular needle should be 2-3 sizes smaller than the recommended needle size for the yarn. Don't worry, Brioche rib is so elastic, you will not feel like you are knitting too tightly. The instructor will demonstrate the 2-color Italian cast-on recommended in the pattern, but you can use any cast-on as long as it is very stretchy.

Pre-registration is needed since class space is limited.
